It would be interesting to to know if the spike in identity thefts is still routed in the paper world or whether we're seeing increases due to digital thefts.

The paper-shredding event is a great way to draw attention to the issue. I wonder, though, if we have more to fear from personal information being stolen that never even saw a printed page.
